After getting DSL we decided to get a router so we can have multiple computers on the DSL. The sales guys handed us the D-Link 604 and it sucked!!! It was so hard to install! After three weeks of trying to get it to work we finally gave up. I searched the web and found that the Linksys Instant Broadband EtherFast Cable/DSL had great views so we went and bought it. IT WAS WELL WORTH IT! Right when we got home we set it up with the easy installation CD. We only had to change the internet setting and that was it. For even myself (an intermediate computer user) it was simple. I really recommend this product!!!

Plugged mine in and it pulled an IP automatically. My 2 computers pulled their IPs from it, and I was up. Very very painless install.

In reference to your ICQ jpeg problem, I found this on a FAQ page from Linksys:
Question: "Does the Cable/DSL router support ICQ send file?"
Answer: Yes, with the following fix: ICQ menu->preference->connections tab-> check "I'm behind a firewall or proxy", and set the firewall time-out to 80 seconds in the firewall setting. The internet user can then send a file to a user behind the router.

Instead of paying your cable or DSL provider for extra IPs - get one of these little boxes! You can connect up to 4 machines directly to it (more if you add additional hubs or switches). Added safety of NAT-based firewall. Linksys has also been very good about constantly updating the firmware and adding features. Overall - very good product!

Switching from SBC to Comcast I decided to give this little product a try with running the wirreless portion of my 8 computer home network. I just plugged this little fellow in and it pulled an IP automatically. My wireless computers pulled their IPs from it, and I was up and running. As a writer I get ideas from everywhere and needs access from many areas of home. This does the trick, offering no pain in the setup. ...
I started using Linksys since I first set-up a home network. Their stuff has never let me down. This router is no exception. I plugged it in, followed their quick set-up guide and I was done. My multiple PC's now have cable internet.

Love the router... first class all the way. However, will the firewall from the router not allow me to get ".jpg files" from my friends on the "ICQ chat program"?
Since installation, it appears that I am unable to receive.
Any suggestions anyone??

It's great if you just want to set up a LAN and surf the web on more than one computer!
If you're planning to use more than one computer over a VPN, this might not be the router for you. I can only get one VPN connection going at a time.
