the lighter a laptop the easer it is to carry around. Looks like laptops are fast replacing desktops, so the more functions they can perform the better.
Pros: light
Cons: could use some more memory
My XPS M1530 Product (RED) Compare Prices

Review:
I bought my XPS M1530 Product (RED) almost three months ago and have been really satisfied with it's overall performance. The Product (RED) version comes bundled with the Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit OS. I bunked up my system with Intel's T7700 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo Processor, 3.00GB of RAM and NVIDIA's GeForce 8600M GT video card, making it and above-average laptop and able to cater to most daily needs, be it for work or gaming. The option to customize one's laptop tailored to their budget and individual needs remains one of DELL's strongest selling points over it's rivals. What the above specs translates into is a powerful, value-for-money, above-average laptop that performs well all-round and caters to my needs. Based on my own personal survey of other laptops in this range, DELL offers the best value-for-money deal, especially as their laptops are ordered/purchased online. No other laptop with the above specs were available at the price I paid for my XPS M1530 Product (RED) as at January 2008. This is definitely a laptop for those looking for a good all-rounder laptop that is value for money. Plus, DELL's good after-sales service is an added bonus. I highly recommend the XPS M1530.
Pros: An all-round performer that seamlessly combines work and play in one sleek package. Good value for money.
Cons: Nothing to complain about, near perfect. I won't say this is a perfect laptop as I truly want DELL to out-do themselves for future models.

I ordered a laptop in February. It is now July, and I still do not have a laptop that works. I have spent over 12 hours on the phone with Dell. Their repair center lost the comptuter and will not send it or a replacement.
Pros: decent system when it works
Cons: if it breaks do not count on dell to fix it

I have owned many Dell computers over the past 15 years, including most recently an XPS M1330. I had a good experience with my 1330 so I decided to buy second XPS with a larger screen. This is the last Dell I will ever purchase. The overall package here is very pretty. But the quality of construction and customer service is terrible. I have experienced blue screens, disk errors, thermal shutdowns, missing boot devices, and mysterious RAM allocation changes. None of these things happened on my M1330. In contacting their support staff, their solution is to either run their diagnostics utility (which takes 4 hours), or re-image the OS. I've done both several times now. The diagnostics utility crashed once - to which they shrugged and told me to run it again, and the re-imaging of the OS delays the issues for a few more days. Through all this, I've had to navigate their customer service department which is an epic journey in itself. I've been hung up on, transferred to the wrong department countless times, been given wrong case numbers (I then lose all history of my previous calls), and been told to call phone numbers that are no longer in service.

Given the nature of my hardware issues, my guess is that I have a bad motherboard, which is a pretty straightforward, albeit pricey, fix. Language barriers and an inability to follow through from their support side have halted all progress to salvage my future personal and professional patronage. If anyone from Dell is reading this, you need to move your call centers back to the US. Because, this just isn't working.
Pros: The Hi def display is gorgeous. The metal surfaces and keyboard make for a comfortable and slick design. Hinge and touch buttons are also a nice bit of design. A very sturdy feeling machine overall. Great computer, if it works.
Cons: Upon purchasing this system, I experienced periodic hard disk failures, blue screens and unexpected shut downs. Very buggy, and the tech support is absolutely the worst in the business.

Wireless USB, Bluetooth, Nextgen wireless N, 4Gb Ram, WUXGA, 9 cell, Vista Home (no complaints with the O/S yet), Fingerprint reader works fine - nice touch, externally switched wifi finder, case switch turns wireless/Bluetooth on/off, though not advertised as such - Intel 2.4/3Mb/667 is the new gen thinner chip @35 watts, with faster processing circuitry/instructions.

For $1200, there was absolutely nothing that could be configured as well available. Had to keep checking Dell site until I found the best deal.

I am very impressed with all aspects: speed, utilities, WUXGA screen, media center available W/O booting, sleek, attractive, reasonably light, not too hot.

Cons: Haven't tried the screen outside yet. Does run ~ warm, keyboard could be better: no need to taper keys. Right side row of keys has a gap between it and the next row of keys - minor quality issue.

All-in-all -- so far, so good!
Pros: Great value. Almost $600 discount through Dell on top of free upgrades; fully loaded for $1200
Cons: Could use an extra USB port, multi-card reader, and the glossy screen may be an issue though I haven't used it outside yet.

Is the problem Windows Vista or Dell's integration? I don't know or care, Dell shouldn't bundle it if it doesn't work together. Frustratingly slow, with frequent lockups and crashes. Customer service based in India is hard to reach, user-unfriendly, and frequently disconnects (requiring "process" reset). Hardware quality also seems to be an issue - within 1 month of purchase, both hard drive and optical drive failed, requiring replacement. Refund request was refused (purchase was just outside of 21 day return period), and they actually asked me if I would replace the disks myself. I said "no." so they will send a technician to my house to do the repair. This is the one positive from my experience, if it works out. I would never buy a Dell product again.
Pros: after much anguish and effort, a technician will be sent to my house to make nec. repairs
Cons: shouldn't have happened, especially in first month of ownership: poor quality, poor service

Shut down suddenly, Blue screen after it.Very slow even that I upgraded up to 4MB. I had before the XPS M1330 and it was an excellent computer so I decided to buy the XPS M1530 and I am very dissapointed.
Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Very slow even that I upgraded it up to 4MB. When I am typing I have the feeling that I am dyslexic. Most of the word I typed are wrong.Looks nice, but poor quality internal hardware & construction.
